š Brilliant trip last week to Gloucestershire's Energy from Waste facility run by FCC Environmental. The tour comprised an overview of the construction of the facility, and a facility tour to see how waste comes in, how it is sorted and valuable recycles recovered, the incineration process and how heat and electricity is generated. Fascinating insight into what our County Council is doing to help us make use of all we can from our waste resources.
š„ The state of the art facility serves the whole county on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council and helps reduce dependence on landfill (92.8% diversion), generates up to 18MW of energy for 25,000 homes and contributes to recycling targets, including valuable metals and bottom ash fior aggregates.
šļø Not only this. The facility also plays a ket role in the community through its Community Fund contributing to local projects. Since 2019 the Fund has allocated financial grants worth over Ā£138,000 to support around 50 projects.
We all need to understand and appreciate the key role these facilities play in helping is manage the complex waste management challenges created by population growth and the rise of new urban centres, as well as our need to protect the environment and where possible make use of valuable resources.
